Summer fun with Gelli Arts® and DecoArts paints!

The lovely folks at Deco Arts sent me some acrylics recently to try out on my gel plates and we have teamed up with Gelli Arts to make some “summer fun” themed art projects! So here is my fun wee offering!

You can watch the video above to see how its done, and I will also talk you through the steps here.

For this project you will need:

  • Some Deco Arts acrylic paints
  • Small Gelli Arts ® plates (I used the triangle plate and the Jane Davenport seashell plate)
  • Paper plate for mixing colours
  • Brayer
  • texture tools of your choice – I used a silicone tool and some cotton buds
  • cardstock

I start off by mixing some of the colours to create “ice cream colours”
Using the triangle gel plate i lay down two shades of pale brown for the cone, one with a texture on top of the first layer.
To make the ice-cream on top i use the seashell plate and roll out the colours loosely to they look a bit like ice cream
I use a cotton bud to make “chocolate chips”!
I put several layers of “ice cream” on top of my cones in different colours and textures.

I was inspired by the work of Wayne Thiebaud, who painted fabulous works of sweets, cakes and icecreams, such as this one below. Happy summer everyone! And happy printing!
